Acupuncture for Back Pain

A powerful treatment is acupuncture for back pain and many other common conditions.

The effectiveness of acupuncture on low back pain has stood the test of time for thousands of years. While not everyone is lining up for this type of treatment, those who have received it notice great reductions in chronic pain and illness.

An excellent alternative to pain medication, acupuncture is a relatively pain-free treatment procedure that can effectively reduce or eliminate chronic pain as well as aid in the prevention of future medical conditions and diseases.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical procedure that focuses on restoring the body’s energy to a balanced state so that it can essentially heal itself.

The Chinese believe that our body’s energy flows in a regular repeating path along ‘channels’ that are located along the surface of our skin.

These ‘channels’ are also called meridians and it is believed that when we experience sickness or pain that our life force energies stop flowing in a regular pattern in may get ‘dammed up’ in certain areas.

In order to restore energy flow to its original state, acupuncture employs the use of thin, solid, stainless steel needles that are inserted along specific ‘acupoints’ along the body’s energy meridians. Once the acupuncturist inserts the needles, they will be left in place for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

During the acupuncture for back pain treatment, your acupuncturist may also add electricity or heat to the needles for additional therapeutic effects, depending on why you have sought treatment.

What Does Acupuncture Treat?

Traditional acupuncture is said to not only promote overall health and wellness but to also treat acute and chronic types of pain including severe lower back pain and to help prevent disease. Along with acupuncture for back pain, this ancient form of Chinese medicine is effective in alleviating pain and symptoms from a number of other specific medical issues.

Conditions successfully treated with acupuncture include:

  • Respiratory Conditions - Acupuncture effectively treats a number of respiratory issues including asthma, sinusitis, hay fever, bronchitis, frequent chest infections and emphysema.
  • Reproductive and Urinary Conditions - This variety of treatment provides significant relief from conditions such as PMS, endometriosis, recurrent bladder infections, impotence, kidney stones, menopause, fibroid tumors and infertility.
  • Digestive Conditions - Acupuncture has been proven to help alleviate symptoms from a number of digestive conditions including chronic constipation, diarrhea, gastritis, spastic colon, bloating, hemorrhoids, IBS, colitis and ulcers.
  • Muscular Disorders and Neurological Conditions - Many alternative medical providers employ the treatment of acupuncture for back pain such as sciatica, arthritis, lower back pain and neck pain along with a range of other muscular and neurological conditions including chronic headaches, facial tics, neck muscle pain, tennis elbow, tendonitis, polio, shingles, muscle spasms and cerebral palsy.
  • Immune Disorders - Acupuncture is also considered effective in treating a range of immune diseases and disorders including HIV, multiple sclerosis, candida, Epstein Barr, Lupus, allergies and hepatitis.

Will Back Pain Recur?

Studies show that the use of acupuncture for back pain reduces the symptoms and pain associated with strains, pulls, arthritis, muscle conditions and more.

At the basic level, acupuncture ‘opens’ the energy meridians and restores the body’s natural energy flow and balance to encourage the body to heal itself.

Patients may need several acupuncture treatments to alleviate symptoms; however, this treatment offers no promise that the pain will never return.

The body can easily become imbalanced again due to stress or additional trauma and injury, which may cause pain and symptoms to resume. Advocates of acupuncture suggest regular treatments over an extended period of time to ensure that you are receiving the most beneficial results from your treatment.

The treatment of acupuncture for back pain is a safe, sterile and effective method for reducing symptoms arising from not only back pain but an array of other pain, muscular, neurological, reproductive, gastric and respiratory conditions as well. This alternative medical treatment inflicts little to no pain and you can use it as necessary to treat symptoms.

Numerous studies have concluded that the use of acupuncture as a lower back pain remedy, along with other types of chronic conditions and chronic back pain causes, is a valid and legitimate treatment option.

Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with chiropractic treatments to address the symptoms mentioned. While some conditions such as herniated discs may experience symptom relief through the use of acupuncture, non-surgical spinal decompression has been successfully treating and curing these conditions.

Acupuncture procedures can be quite costly if paying out of pocket; however, recent increases in the number of insurance companies that are acknowledging acupuncture are making it a more affordable option for treatment.

Acupuncture has been effective at not only treating back pain but at maintaining bodily health for over a thousand years. Any cost associated with a preventive medicine such as acupuncture will pale in comparison to the cost of treating conditions that may later arise. When you add in the emotional and spiritual impact money spent preventing disease is money well spent.
